5th Anniversary Chelmsford Meet and Charity Donation

Our 5th Anniversary meet, hoisted by The Essex Beardsmen, the first and original Thatch of the Club, took place on Saturday 15th February at The Queens Head, Lower Anchor St., Chelmsford.

The very first Meet of The British Beard Club took place on the evening of February 13th 2009 at The Cockpit in St. Paul's, a delightful little London pub sticking out like a big nose on the corner of St. Andrews Hill and a narrow alley.

Our report of that first 2009 Meet concludes:

“A good time was had by all who attended, and everyone had useful and friendly conversations. From about 10pm the meeting broke up gradually, leaving only the Essex Beardsmen at The Cockpit to finish off their pints and make their way to Liverpool Street Station.”

The Essex Beardsmen I unconsciously dubbed them then, and so they are now - and for all time!

In celebration of that initial Meet, our Essex Beardsmen have hosted a TBBC Meet every year on the Saturday nearest that date, in Chelmsford, Essex - God's Own County, they will tell you.

This year's meet was hugely successful with around 40 attendees, mingling with reporters and photographers from The Essex Chronicle.

Founder member Frazer Coppin presented a certificate representing the Club's donation of £1000 from members subscriptions to Trevor Parrett, representing Prostate Cancer UK.

The Essex Beardsmen were showing and selling their colourful baseball shirts, and a great time was had by all.

Davie Easton, President of the Glasgow Beard and Moustache Club sends us this rundown of their new Committee structure.

“We now have a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Sergeant at Arms and Fixer.

“I am President, Gregor Miller is VP, Tim Stables is Secretary, John Cuthbert is Sergeant at arms - making sure club meetings run smoothly etc and Lewis Simister is our fixer - he will be our club go-to guy for beard products and advice for members.

“Our plans for the coming year; we will be having a beard club meet every 4-5 weeks as usual with two larger events lined up - our first birthday bash in May and then World Beard Day. We will also be heading down to Bath for the Championships.”

The GBMC is going to The Beards gig on 1st of March, and are having a meet prior to the gig at The Old Hairdresser's, Renfield Lane, Glasgow. Early start at 5pm so they can all be properly lubricated for the gig!

Meet Jesus Hooligan

Club member Steve Brunton's wife Karen has the right attitude! Steve says,

“ I sing in a Tribal punk band called Jesus Hooligan. We play songs with barrels, didgeredoo's and chains.

I don't actually own a beard, it's my wife's, and she has always said if I leave her she will take two things and one of them is my beard. The video above explains everything.”
